It’s Okay To Be Unproductive

It’s okay to be unproductive. Yes, it really is. In fact, it’s more than okay to be unproductive.

For the past couple of hours, I’ve been feeling super lazy and didn’t feel like doing anything. I just wanted to sit in my chair and do nothing. But, a feeling of guilt was building up inside of me for being lazy, even though there’s nothing wrong in not being productive. And that’s what inspired me to write this blog.

A lot of us think that we “have” to be productive all of the time, and that may lead to us feeling guilty or bad about the way we are spending our time. I know that this website has several blogs about productivity hacks and tips, but we’ve never really acknowledged how it’s totally okay to not be productive. So, I wanted to shed light on that in this blog in case you have been feeling pressured to be productive 24/7 lately.

Sometimes, we just need to take some time for ourselves to just gather our thoughts, forget about our worries, and be human. This means not being productive and not crossing tasks of our to-do list every couple of minutes.

Think about it: If all we did was work on our tasks and do our job 24/7, when would we get time to relax? Time to spend time with family and friends and have fun with them?

It’s nearly impossible to spend every moment of our life being productive because that leaves no time for doing all the activities you love. Moreover, you don’t want to end up burnt out.

Just because you end up doing nothing for a small amount of time of your life does not mean you are not a productive person. I consider myself to be productive, even though a couple of days ago, my eyes were glued to the TV screen for several hours.

We all need time for ourselves to relax and unwind for some time, no matter how much work there is left or how long the to-do list is.

So, if you’re going to ignore your to-do list for some time to watch Netflix, do it.

If you’re going to shut off your computer and unplug to relax and read a book, do it.

If you’re going to ignore all your work calls and spend a day with your family, do it.

Don’t feel guilty for taking time for yourself. In fact, feel proud of yourself for knowing what you need and giving the gift of relaxation to yourself.

The Takeaway

The Takeaway

It’s okay to be unproductive. Period.

Whenever you are ready and whenever you feel like it, you can get back into hustle mode. But, don’t force yourself into it.
