Introduction

Success is what all humans desire. There is no greater feeling in the world than success. The feeling of working so hard for something and having all that hard work paid off.

Who in their right mind wants to fail? We humans only get one life. Shouldn’t we want to make it as successful as possible?

Setting yourself up for success starts at a young age. Your character, the person you are, is being built from the time you are born. As a child, you really don’t have much of an opportunity to seek success. Yes, you can have small areas of success in your life, but nothing really happens until your teenage years.

When you become a teenager, you start to shape the person you are going to become in your adult years. You get to choose the path that you go down. A path that leads to a long life of success and satisfaction or a path that leads to failure and unhappiness.

That’s why I believe that the teenage years are the most important when it comes to determining the outcome of your life. That’s why I wrote this guide, A Teen’s Guide to Success!

About Me and This Blog

First, you probably should know a little about me and my blog.

My name is Jacob and I’m an 18-year-old living in northern Colorado. I love the outdoors, particularly, skiing and hiking in the mountains. I love spending time with my friends and family. And of course, I love to kick back and relax. But when I’m not doing those things you’ll usually find me working at my job at a local grocery store or working on my businesses. Throughout my life I’ve owned a lemonade stand, mobile car wash business, lawn mowing business, an eBay reselling business, a travel agency with my dad, and my most recent endeavor, this blog. I’ve been an active member of my local FBLA chapter, participating and placing among the top positions at state for my business plans. I have a passion for business and finance and I love to share it with others!

Success

Habits

When it comes to creating success in your life, it all starts with building good habits. Here’s a list of habits that I suggest you start:

Waking Up Early

Waking Up Early

Success starts with waking up early. It’s important to build a morning routine of things that you want to accomplish before you start the rest of your day. You need to wake up early in order to achieve that.

Exercising

Exercising is a great way to start your day. Not only does it keep you in shape and in your optimal health, but it also gets the blood moving and requires discipline which will help you stay more productive in the rest of your day.

Cold Showers

Cold Showers

After exercising, a cold shower is a great way to wake up. It gets the blood moving, helps you lose weight, boosts the immune system, and promotes emotional resilience.

Making Your Bed

Making your bed is a great habit to start building. It should be the first habit you build because when you use self-discipline each day to make your bed, you start to develop greater self-disciple which can be carried into other habits.

Meditating

Meditating

Have you ever tried meditating? It’s a less common habit, however, it can improve relaxation and focus. There are some great apps for meditating. Each session only lasts a few minutes and you’ll see the benefits right away!

Eating Healthy

Another important part of your health is eating healthy. Healthy food will improve your health and you’ll feel much more focused and energized.

Drinking Water

Your body needs at least 64 ounces of water a day according to experts. We all know we need more water, just make it a habit to start drinking more!

habits of higly productive people

Limit Social Media

The average American spends over 3 hours a day on their phone. Most of that is spent on social media. Social media is a way to be connected to others, and most feel that when they aren’t on social media, they are missing out. As a result, we spend hours of our precious days mindlessly scrolling over the posts we’ve already seen just to see if there’s anything new. Imagine if you cut back your 3 hours to 2 hours or even 1 hour. Check your phone once in the morning, once at midday, and once before you go to bed. Spend your extra time working on your passion.

Passion Work

If you now have extra time on your hands because you are limiting social media, consider working on your passion or your business. This is a great outlet for your time as you feel passionate and productive at the same time. I bet that you’ll see massive growth in your business when you begin to devote more time to it.

Journaling

Journaling

Journaling can be a great way to track your habits and goals. It helps you keep on track and know what works and what doesn’t.

Reading

Reading is another key habit to get into. It increases your knowledge and your reading and writing skills. Reading is also a good thing to do right before bed to wind down.

Sleeping

Sleeping

Your body functions much better on more sleep. Try getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night. If you’re waking up at 6:00 a.m., you need to be ready to go to bed before 10:00 p.m. Put your phone away at 9:00 or 9:30, get ready for bed, and then read to wind down until 10:00.

Morning/Evening Routines

Morning Routine: I’d recommend waking up, exercising, taking a cold shower, getting ready, making your bed, and meditating in the morning.

Evening Routine: In the evening, put your phone away 30 minutes to 1 hour before you are going to bed. Get ready, journal, make a note of your goals for the next day and then read until you go to bed.

Money Tips/Mistakes

Money Tips/Mistakes

Humans make a lot of mistakes when it comes to managing our money. Us teens are the worst at it. It makes sense, we’re new to the money managing world. Although in the moment these mistakes might seem like the end of the world, they’re really not. The nice part about making these mistakes when you’re young is that you still live with your parents and depend on them. If you make a mistake with your money, you still have them to back you up. Here’s some common mistakes teen’s make with money:

  • Not building an emergency fund
  • Spending too much on ‘wants’ and not budgeting
  • Not saving for college
  • Impulse buying
  • Not investing
  • Giving too much money to friends
  • Not preparing for your future

Frequently Asked Questions

How Success is Measured

When it comes to measuring success, there’s no definite way to do it. Success should be measured as personal progress. Don’t compare yourself to others, instead compare yourself to where you used to be. Look at how far you’ve come when it comes to measuring your success. Don’t look at short-term progress, but focus more on the long term progress. Ultimately, you want to work towards your best self and your best life. If you can achieve that and look back at your life with no regrets, you will have a truly successful life.

Can Success be Disastrous

Success can definitely be disastrous. Remember that quote, “It is possible to have too much of a good thing”? Well, it’s still true and it applies to everything we do today, including success. Success at its roots is not a bad thing. Somehow, we still find ways to mess things up. If your success leads to fame, that can tear your life apart in more ways than I can count. If you become cocky about your success, people will start to lose their respect for you. And if your success gives you a lot of money and you blow it on stupid things, you’ll find yourself right back where you started, broke. All this to say, just make sure that you use your success wisely and you’ll be fine.

How Success Can Be Achieved

Success only comes from two things, perseverance and mistakes. Those who are willing to work hard for something will become successful at it. The key is to make sure that you stay consistent with your goals and don’t slack off on them. If something isn’t working, then change it. Learn from your mistakes and try new things until you find something that works. Then repeat this process until you reach all of your goals!

Why Success Always Starts With Failure

Do you want to know why there are so many unsuccessful people? Because they lack perseverance and consistency. If it were easy to become successful, then everyone would already be successful. Success is only rewarded to those who are willing to work for it. Those who are willing to work through countless failures will eventually succeed. The people who quit when they hit their first obstacle are the unsuccessful people. Those who don’t quit will see unimaginable success.

Who Defines Success

You define success! It’s important to not let anyone else define success for you. You are the only person who can define success in your life. Maybe for you, everyone your whole life has always told you to go to college, but college isn’t for you. You can still find success without going to college! Don’t let other people get in the way of your hopes and dreams!

Why Success is Important

It’s important to go after success to find fulfillment and satisfaction with your life. Each of us only gets one life, so make the best of it. Become the most successful person that you can because there are no second chances! There will be no greater feeling than at the end of your life to be able to look back and see all the areas of your life that you were successful. To see all the goals that you set, worked hard for, and achieved. Start going after success now, before it’s too late!

What Success Feels Like

The feeling of being successful varies between each individual. Some may experience this when they land their dream job, in a conservative house, with a nice, but conservative car. Others may not feel successful until they have a mansion with multiple sports cars and houses in different places. Whatever it may be, success feels like you finally made it (or that you’re currently on the right track to making it.) Successful people set goals and work to achieve them. The feeling of joy and accomplishment you get when you finally achieve your dreams is like no other.

Why Success Takes Time

Success takes time because you have to be willing to work harder than the millions of other people before you. If you want to be the best basketball player, you’ll have to work harder than people like Michael Jordan and LeBron James. Let’s say throughout their life they put in 15,000 hours of practicing basketball (2 hours a day for 20 years). The only way that you can become better than them is to put in 16,000 hours. Now, this a crazy example, but you get the point. If you want to be better than everyone else, you’ll need to work harder than everyone else.

The Takeaway

Success is a fundamental part of life. Your teenage years are the best time to start living a successful life that will model what the rest of your life will look life. With the right habits, inspiration, and resources, you can start becoming successful today! We hope you enjoyed A Teen’s Guide to Success!
