How To Improve Your Mindset As A Teenager

Welcome to this blog on how to improve your mindset as a teenager!

What do you think is the #1 key to being successful and happy?

Personally, I believe that the #1 key to a successful and fulfilling life is a good mindset. By “good,” I mean optimistic, confident, and determined.

You could think of other words to describe your secret to success, but I guarantee you that it probably relates to a growth mindset.

Before we move on with this blog, it’s important to understand what “mindset” actually is. Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself.

We may not think that our thoughts are powerful, but in fact, they truly are. Our thoughts determine our attitudes and actions, which then determine the way we are showing up for ourselves in the world.

Life is all about learning and growing, and there’s never a point in life where we stop learning or growing. If you are really determined to accomplish your goals and make your dream your reality, the first thing you should do is check your mindset.

You always want to make sure that your mindset is going to guide and help you on your journey to success, not hold you back or distract you.

The way you see the world affects the way you show up in the world, so if you want to be a positive person that spreads good vibes, you should start thinking positively too!

No matter what your mindset is right now, there’s no doubt that it can shift. All you have to do is believe you can and make an effort to change it for the better.

By improving your mindset, you can improve your life. So, without further ado, here are 10 tips to improve your mindset as a teenager!

1. Change your self-talk

Change your self-talk

The first tip to improve your mindset is to change your self-talk. Yes, the phrases you say to yourself inside your mind.

Your mind can either be your best supporter or your worst enemy, and it depends on your self-talk.

The conversations you have with yourself are a good reflection of your mindset, so if you want to have a more positive mindset, talk to yourself positively.

Instead of telling yourself that “it’s too hard” or “I can’t do this” (which I know a lot of us do), instead, tell yourself that you got this!

One way to improve your self-talk is to pretend that you are talking to your best friend. Of course, you wouldn’t ever discourage your best friend; you would try to inspire and motivate him/her. So, why not do the same with your mind?

2. Learn from your mistakes

Learn from your mistakes

Anyone who has achieved success can rattle off a list of failures they encountered along the way, I assure you. I’ve been there myself. As I built my business from the bottom up to the multi seven-figure mark, it wasn’t always smooth sailing (to put it nicely). I made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I made an effort to gain something from each setback. I realized that you can learn from a bad teacher as much as you can from a good teacher. And, I learned that every loss is a win if you let it be. So if you’ve experienced a failure, don’t beat yourself up. Brush yourself off, analyze what happened, and determine how you can do things differently in the future, and move on. That is what will determine your ability to be successful—it’s not your wins; it’s how you handle your losses.

3. Surround yourself with people that have your desired mindset

Surround yourself with people that have your desired mindset

It’s also important to surround yourself with people who have the kind of mindset that you are working for.

If you are hanging out with people who tend to complain or have other bad habits, that’s not going to help you move forward and achieve success. Instead, you may get influenced by them and become more like them.

In order to prevent that from happening, you should find a new friend group that have values and aspirations that motivate you to become a better person. Through this, you will grow and become more like them, as well as match your mindset with them!

After all, you are the average of the people you spend the most time with!

4. Consume positive media

Consume positive media

In order to improve your mindset, you must consume positive media. By media, I’m referring to books, courses, events, and shows.

By reading and learning new things, you will be able to rewire your brain and tap into a growth mindset.

When you consistently see positive media, it will stick in your mind and you’ll be able to consistently improve your mindset.

One of my goals this year is to read one personal development book a month, and I recommend creating a similar goal!

5. Go out of your comfort zone

Go out of your comfort zone

In a lot of blogs, I mention getting out of your comfort zone to achieve success. Well, the same goes for improving your mindset.

By staying in your comfort zone, you are familiar with everything and are not opening yourself up to new opportunities, new experiences, and new challenges. Sure, everything will seem easy. But, easy doesn’t bring change.

When you jump out of your comfort zone, you’ll have no choice but to upgrade your mindset to overcome your challenges.

So, despite how scary it may seem, continue to challenge yourself in life. Put yourself in situations where you’ll be able to build mental strength and toughness.

6. Define your own success

A lot of us define success as what we see from other people. Perhaps it’s a lot of money, a lot of happiness, or something else. But, it’s important to define your own success based on your own values and goals.

When you base it off on the standards of other people, you are limiting your thinking and how far you can go till you reach success.

Instead, define what success means to you and only you, and take control of your own life. By doing this, your mindset will significantly improve and you’ll be one step closer to success!

7. Practice gratitude

Practice gratitude

A sure way to improve your mindset is to start practicing gratitude, the act of being thankful and showing appreciation.

Research supports that practicing gratitude contributes to a positive life attitude and makes you feel happier and better. By writing down the things in life you are grateful for, you’ll be able to recognize how blessed you are in life and it will help you see the world from another perspective.

Each morning, I write down 3 things I am grateful for in my journal, and it has definitely opened my eyes to how blessed I am in life. Try it out for a week and see how it improves your mindset!

8. Face your fears

Face your fears

To improve your mindset, you must face your fears.

Some of us fear talking in front of big audiences, being judged, being rejected, or failing. But, whatever your fear is, it’s time to overcome it.

By overcoming your fears, you will grow into a stronger person who has a more confident and positive mindset. Getting over your fears will help you get over any limiting beliefs you previously had, thus improving your mindset.

Just like getting out of your comfort zone, facing your fears will help your mindset grow and improve, guiding you to success!

9. Get support

how to improve your mindset

Improving your mindset doesn’t have to be a thing you do all by yourself. It definitely helps to get some help and support from others.

By asking others for their advice, you will learn new ideas and strategies that you haven’t thought of it before and it will help shift your mindset in a positive direction.

Seek people who you know have an optimistic outlook on life and don’t be afraid to reach out.

10. Create new habits to support your mindset change

Create new habits to support your mindset change

Integrate powerful habits into your day that help your mindset change and reenforce your thinking with action. If you are upgrading from “fixed” to “growth” mindset, schedule time for learning and start noting down your learnings and achievements every day. If you are upgrading from “destination” to “journey” mindset, practice being mindful, enjoying the present moment and celebrating small successes.

The habits you practice will build your identity, so if you want to start being more positive, start doing habits that will help you do so! Your thoughts and habits are closely correlated, so be sure to adopt beneficial habits that will help you on your journey, not hold you back.
